GEElab Monthly Game Play #1 - Audio Arc

This month sees the first GEElab Monthly Game Play - Audio Arc launched at the RMIT Design Hub. All are welcome to join - register here

Audio Arc was conceived in a game design workshop led by game design artist Heather Kelley. The aim of the workshop was to develop a prototype game that exploited the surrounding physical environment as a play space.

To play Audio Arc, mobile phones are individually distributed to a given number of players, having had their alarms set to default ringtones in unique pairs by the game host. Alarms are set a few minutes in advance of the game starting so that they all activate at the same time. Once the phone alarm activates, players must locate their audio counterparts with the matching ringtone whilst blindfolded.

Unable to see where each participant is in relation to the other players within the game space, participants use mobile alarm ringtones a audio cues to locate their partner. Once players with matching ringtones have found each other they can remove their blindfolds. They are then free to use their mobile ringtones to distract or assist the remaining players to find their audio match.
